Condom Colours Highlight STDs

Three teenage boys in England have conceived an idea to fight sexually transmitted diseases and they want to spread it to everyone. It’s a smart condom that changes colour when it is exposed to an STD.

Daanyaal Ali, 14, Muaz Nawaz, 13, and Chirag Shah, 14, winners of the U.K.’s TeenTech Awards, proposed that antibodies on the condom would interact with the antigens of STDs, causing the rubber to turn a specific luminescent colour.

No news on the colours yet, but the future could easily allow for a condom while still in use to turn bright green at the first hint of chlamydia, or, yellow at the sniff of candida.

No doubt, the embarrassed condom wearer will be turning a bright red. The teens will split the prize of US$1,500 and meet Prince Andrew at Buckingham Palace.
